    Team Lead / Founder

    As CEO and team lead of Project Nebula, I set the strategic vision, secure resources, and drive innovation while representing my team in competitions like RoboSub. I also coordinate engineering, software, and operations, ensuring your team executes at a high level from design and testing all the way to competition performance.

    Beyond the sub

    Outside of RoboSub, I compete as a dedicated swimmer, captaining the Martin High School Swim Team, and swimming for AAC, while balancing demanding academics and leadership commitments, consistently pushing myself to improve. I also serve as captain of the Martin High School RoboBoat Seals and the SOAR AVR Robotics team leading your team through development and competition while mentoring members and driving performance. I also serve as a Troop Guide for Troop 222, and will be interning at Bell Helicopter next semester. Outside of that I enjoy cooking, climbing, camping, and running

    Nicholas Cheng

    co-founder / CFO

    As CFO and Co-Founder of Project Nebula, I manage the financial strategy that keeps our radical affordability mission alive, ensuring every donated dollar is allocated with the same precision we bring to our engineering. On the CS team, I lead our social media and the autonomy systems that make the vehicle tick. The problems we tackle here, perception, state estimation, decision-making, are exactly what drew me to ML research in the first place, and Nebula is where that interest got its start and helped me develop.

    Beyond the sub

    Outside of RoboSub, I spend a lot of my time on machine learning research including AI safety, causal robotics, and low-resource language translation, with some of that work finding its way into NeurIPS and AAAI workshops. I intern at Lockheed Martin and am attending MIT BWSI this summer. I also serve as Mu Alpha Theta President where I do math competitions and USACO. Outside of that, I hoop, work out, and love Taiwan and Daniel Caesar.

    Joel Lee

    Electrical / PCB Engineer

    I manage power distribution, battery management, and sensor integration to ensure reliable operation in harsh aquatic environments. This requires developing custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) and wiring harnesses for thrusters, sensors, and onboard computers.

    Beyond the sub

    I play soccer and violin outside of Robosub. I also serve as Roboboat Electrical Lead where I've designed custom PCBs. I like doing math competitions and writing through UIL. In my free time, I enjoy playing League of Legends and listening to Laufey.

    Ethan Rojas

    Software / Controls

    As part of Project Nebula, I focus on the software, controls, and integration that help turn underwater robotics ideas into reliable and competitive systems. I have also gotten the chance to dive into the mechanical side of the sub by helping design parts in CAD and simulating different events to improve the overall design. Overall, not only have I improved in my field, but I have also learned how mechanical, electrical, and software systems all come together. RoboSub has pushed me beyond just code to understand the full system behind the sub.

    Beyond the sub

    Outside of RoboSub, I like to spend my time working on robotics, cybersecurity, and computer science projects. I am part of FRC Team 3676 as a Computer Science Co-Lead, where I work on autonomous paths, sensors, and debugging robot systems. I also compete in CyberPatriot and UIL Computer Science, and I enjoy building projects with Raspberry Pi, electronics, and computer vision. I am also a future Lockheed Martin intern, where I hope to keep growing my skills in engineering and technology. Outside of STEM, I enjoy running, biking with friends, and listening to Tecca.

    I, the tallest member of the team, spent a dubious amount of hours constructing and perfecting this website before you. As the newest member, I believe that dedication and hard work is the key to results.

    I’m cracked at the violin and I am capable of “throwing hands.” Additionally, I will be interning at Bell Helicopters next school year.

    Liam Bray

    I lead the Unity physics simulation development. This will serve as the core testing ground for our autonomy, computer vision, and controls teams, allowing us to train algorithms and validate missions safely before real-world deployment.

    I'm actively working on science fair projects. I serve as Robobat and FRC CS Lead. In my free time, I do math competitions like AMC and USACO.

    Benjamin Bowyer

    Software / computer vision

    I've focused on exploring how an llm can be integrated to improve the reliability of and flexibility of our projects autonomous decision making. I've also had the opportunity to assist in the development and maintence of our current ROS 2 based system. I have developed experience in robotics software development, sensor integration, and debugging.

    Outside of Robosub I am a devoted student and swimmer. I participate in both other competitve robotics teams and CTF cyber security competitions.

    Alan Nguyen

    Mechanical / Engineer

     I focus on the design, manufacturing, and integration of components that help bring the sub to life. I design parts in CAD, manufacture frame components, and utilize 3D printing to rapidly prototype and produce custom solutions for the team. Through this work, I have gained experience turning digital designs into physical systems while considering factors such as reliability, performance, and manufacturability. I also collaborate with the software team to help ensure that systems are integrated effectively and that code can run reliably on the hardware.

    Beyond the sub

    Outside of school, I enjoy working on engineering projects, robotics, and drone development. As a lead engineer in FRC robotics and drone projects, I enjoy solving technical challenges and turning ideas into reality. In my free time, I like gardening and building small DIY projects that let me learn new skills. I also enjoy exploring new places and going on adventures with friends whenever I get the chance.
